Garland Kelley – The Point Of No Return (2023)

Devoted to alternative and classic rock, one would imagine singer-songwriter Garland Kelley has a powerful rock sound. While the veteran artist does lean toward the rock genre, an eclectic inclusion of other genres slivers through the melodies. He has already turned our heads with his single ‘A Mind Of Your Own’ but we are not the only one enchanted by his music. Featured on Send Me Your Ears, Edgar Allan Poets, Sinusoidal Music, Mesmerized, Less Than 1000 Followers, Rock Era Magazine and many more, Garland Kelley is a breath of fresh air in the independent music scene.

Following his track ‘A Mind Of Your Own’, US-based Kelley once again broaches a provocative theme in ‘The Point Of No Return’. Unafraid to explore profound topics in his music, ‘The Point Of No Return’ touches on climate change and self-destruction. Unlike ‘A Mind Of Your Own’ with its folk-inspired lilt, this sophomore single is richer, fuller and leans more towards an alternative rock tone. Yet, while you can hear his devotion to rock, an eclecticism exists in the arrangement bringing an almost indescribable toe-tapping edginess to the song. I have to give a shout-out to the powerful guitar solo with its nostalgic flair.

As I mentioned, Garland Kelley is unafraid to explore sometimes controversial topics, and ‘The Point Of No Return’ is no different. Interestingly enough, while the theme is thought-provoking making you consider the uncertainty of our world and self-destructive nature, the poetic execution finds a balance between judgement and intimate relatability.

Sincere, sentimental, insightful and brutally honest, Garland Kelley once again enchants listeners with his insatiable music.
