Frank Joshua – Walls (2025)
Known for his skill of weaving poignant, evocative lyricism with powerful melodies, Frank Joshua composes masterpieces to be experienced, not only heard. From his 2021 single ‘Rain’ to 2024’s ‘Danny Boy’, singer-songwriter Joshua has been on our radar, if not always in our virtual pages. Meaningful and profound, but with the soul-stirring lilt of comfort, Joshua’s music is an intimate solace for all audiences. Today, we take a gander at his most recent release, ‘Walls’.
The first step into 2025 for UK-based Joshua, ‘Walls’ captures the essence of vintage blues in the melody. Shifting from his pop leanings heard in songs like ‘Danny Boy’, ‘Panic In The Kitchen’, and ‘Sense Life’, ‘Walls’ appears an evolution in Joshua’s sound.
Recorded in North London and Exeter with long-time producer Tony White, ‘Walls’ is a concoction of guitars, bass, drums, a piano, and interspersed horns peeking from the back. Each element has its individuality, and you will notice the different aspects – particularly the bold piano – but instead of a collision, there is a warm mellifluous flow carrying you across a smooth sonic river. Interestingly, while the melody is charming and comfortable, the theme is a little less so.
Exploring the complexities of relationships, ‘Walls’ is navigating the challenges of “…growing old and managing your egos through a long-term relationship…” In an intimate tale, the poetic lyricism unfolds an intricate interplay of partners, how they change, how they develop, and how they attempt to find acceptance in their realities.
Released in two versions – a full-length release and a shorter radio edit – ‘Walls’ appeals to the patient and impatient listener. For me, the one complaint is that even the longer version seems to short. With new material to be released every eight weeks over 2025, I cannot wait more music will come our way shortly.
In addition to the single, Frank Joshua released an official music video for ‘Walls’. You can view the video below or on his YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
