Frank Joshua – Patent Leather Car (2023)
Combining his talents with producer Tony White, singer-songwriter Frank Joshua has a sophisticated, intoxicating and unique pop sound for the masses. From his debut single ‘Panic In The Kitchen’ (released in 2020), to ‘You Are All I Need’ and ‘Millionaire’ in 2023, Joshua traipses from one dreamy pop-inspired tone to another. he has made his way onto our virtual pages before (including an interview in 2022), but we are not the only ones paying attention. Described as “beautiful and timeless” (Pop Magazine), “…opinionated and authentic” (Making A Scene) and “…quality songwriting throughout” (Obscure Music) – along with various other reviews on Less Than 1,000 Followers, TJPL News, and Sinusoidal Music – Joshua is reaching far beyond his UK borders.
Following his well-received track ‘You Are All I Need’, Frank Joshua releases his new single ‘Patent Leather Car’. Recorded at Numen Records/Whitelight Productions in North London, the song diverges slightly from the dream-pop sound integrating a nostalgic funk tune within the melody.
Well-layered and beautifully textured, bold beats with a hint of percussion flow beneath Frank Joshua’s charming vocals. The groovy vibes have you tapping your toe; however, midway through the song, you are tossed into an ethereal whirlpool of pop with wistful synths pumping in the tune. Ending the melody off with soft vocals and a rush of synths, you seem to be eased off onto a whimsical cloud. Interestingly, while there is a strong nostalgic flair to ‘Patent Leather Car’, a contemporary edginess exists that is utterly Frank Joshua.
Along with the charming melody, Joshua’s poetic lyricism brings an elegant and heartfelt, um, charm to ‘Patent Leather Car’. Taking you to a place where you can lay back in a reflective sonic bubble, the song is certainly skin chilling. In fact, the lyricism perfectly illustrates the message of peace, solace and a bit of indulgence. Joshua explains that it is “a song about fear and love and finding solace in something that probably isn’t good for you…”
The fourth track off Joshua’s upcoming album, Patent Leather Car, this title track fills your soul with a mystical melody and leaves you buzzing in a dreamy way.
