Frank Joshua – Bluebell Wood (2023)

Adding a nostalgic flair of synth-pop to contemporary dream-pop, singer-songwriter Frank Joshua brings a tap of the 80s to the 21st century. Influenced by, as Joshua notes, “every good song ever written…”, Joshua and producer Tony White take inspiration from a vast pool to create an inimitable sound. Featured on numerous independent blogs, such as Send Me Your Ears, Less Than 1000 Followers, Eclectic Music Lover, Obscure Sound and Rock Era Magazine, Frank Joshua has been described as “captivatingly smooth and emotive”, “one of the best singer-songwriters today…” and “…as eclectic as it is ecstatic”. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Bluebell Wood’.

In an interview with The Other Side Reviews, Frank Joshua noted songwriting to be his main motivator when making music – “I’ve left music behind a few times in my life and it always finds it way back to me via the songs…songwriting seems to be the fascination and the driver”. His natural talent for storytelling shines through as he puts himself out there with personal narratives in harmonic melodies. ‘Bluebell Wood’ attempts to dig into the unease of new love connecting to individuals on an intimate level.

In the film Love, Actually, being in love is described as “total agony” – the painfulness of first meetings, anxiety to build a connection, and the frustrating inner turmoil as you enter a void of inexplicable obsession. The thing is, just as love is “total agony”, it is the tumultuous rollercoaster ride that makes everything enjoyable, pleasurable and even overwhelmingly perfect. Joshua encapsulates the emotional mayhem in a sonic bubble of ‘Bluebell Wood’.

“’Bluebell Wood’ delves into the gap between first blush and commitment in a new romance. The fear and hope that collides within us as we tentatively explore someone else’s feelings and compare them to our own…” – Frank Joshua on ‘Bluebell Wood’
