Frank Bramble – Pretty Colours (2023)

When we left Frank Bramble review-wise, he was joined by Hanwell and Kyle Horne expressing the effects of the pandemic on our lives in ‘Fall To Flames‘. Bramble continued to fascinate us with his hip-hop, indie-pop, and dream-pop fusion from 2022’s ‘Fall To Flames’ and ‘Pain’ to his full-length album Electricity. With his growing discography and availability on all streaming platforms, Bramble has received international praise for his moving melodies – and his livestreaming on Twitch certainly helps turn heads.

Hailing from the UK, Bramble has been producing music since his mid-teens. With a background of recording and mixing for acts like Space Toast and Dan Hewitt, Bramble embraced a solo project as a “fresh start”. He was naturally drawn to a combination of hip-hop drums, loose rapping and an indie singing style; however, his interest lay beyond the electronic mix. Incorporating organic instruments into his synth-driven sounds, his sound is a “product of continual experimentation” with a distinctive balance of electronic and acoustic. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Pretty Colours’.

Following his single ‘Empty Thoughts’ (a collaboration between Bramble and Hanwell), ‘Pretty Colours’ is a touching fusion of hip-hop beats backing a strong indie-pop style slivered with silvery synths. A self-produced single, Bramble once again showcases his distinctive teetering between organic and synthetic instruments in ‘Pretty Colours’. Along with the bold beats, a kalimba adds character and obscurity to the well-textured piece.

One thing I enjoy about Frank Bramble’s music is its genuineness and raw authenticity. Just as with ‘Empty Thoughts’, there is a gruffness to ‘Pretty Colours’. A seamless combination of sophisticated production with rough vocals captures the honesty of his tale but with a softer landing. It’s like lifting the veil on reality and embracing the grittiness with a tender smile. When speaking about ‘Pretty Colours’, Bramble explains, “This is the third instalment in my latest waterfall release… with an emotional personal connection to the passing of my grandad, this track explores a more emotional depth compared to my usual more light-hearted tracks.”
