Four Faces – Part Of You (2024)

In 2019, many things happened to change the course of human events – the last days of the Trump era, the final year before COVID-19, Greta Thunberg becoming a forerunner in the fight against climate change. All of these are life-changing happenings, but so is the formation of the Irish group Four Faces. No climate change, but a profound change to the Irish music scene and all of our favourite playlists. Elegantly delving into the realms of pop, rock and traditional folk music, Daniel Ffrench, Eoin Butterfield, Tommy Malone and Diarmuid Goggins have earned international acclaim with various singles, supporting acts like Damien Dempsey, and praised as “ones to watch”.

Following well-received singles ‘The Circle’ and ‘Better Option’, ‘Part Of You’ shows another side to Four Faces. Shifting from indie-folk and indie-pop tones, ‘Part Of You’ leans toward alternative rock with smatterings of funk and soul dropped into the tune. Recorded and engineered by Peter Baldwin at Black Mountain Studios, mastered and mixed by Aidan Cunningham and produced by Eoin Butterfield, ‘Part Of You’ seamlessly blends crashing drums, a bold bass, soaring guitars and rich vocals in a harmonic symphony.

As if staring into a mirror, ‘Part Of You’ has a kaleidoscopic shimmer and sheen as you smile at your grinning reflection; however, darkness hides in the corners. Hopeful and optimistic but with haunting vulnerability, Four Faces connects raw emotion with the mask above delicately exploring human fragility with heartfelt tenderness in the new single. Despite being a different facet to Four Faces, ‘Part Of You’ is where it all began; hence, the eagerness to use it as the lead single from their upcoming debut EP. Tommy Malone explains:

“’Part Of You’ was one of the first proper songs we wrote as a band, and it became a blueprint for our sound in the early years. Since then, we have moved in different sonic directions, but is always stuck around as a favourite… it represents us the most in where we started and where we want to go…”
