FLIGHT23 – Strangers In The Night (2024)
Picture the scene: two strangers in Vienna searching for a music project; a project to connect, create and resonate with audiences across the globe. Cue vocalist Yzabel and guitarist Joe. Formed in 2023, FLIGHT23 is a newbie in the sea of independent artists; however, the sophistication of their sound exceeds their currently short existence. Blending elements of rock, punk and metal, a traditional heaviness exists in FLIGHT23’s music but with a modern twist to the style. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Strangers In The Night’.
2023 was a big year for FLIGHT23 as it saw the band’s inception, but they are hitting the ground running in 2024 with plans for a greater journey. Adopting a true DIY style, the pair compose and perform the music while Joe completes all the production from recording to mixing and mastering. At the beginning of 2023, FLIGHT23 released their debut single ‘Sleepless Nights’ tapping into a strong melodic metal meets hard rock sound. In the sophomore single ‘Strangers In The Night’, the pair fuse aspects of melodic metal, alternative rock and nu-metal released in a haunting wrapper of gothic metal.
Reminiscent of Evanescence and Halestorm, FLIGHT23 presents strong female vocals confidently leading the way through a hard-hitting guitar-driven track. I would compare Yzabel’s vocals to Lzzy Hale’s, but a raw ruggedness exists within Yzabel that is not always heard from Hale. Strong and mellifluous, richness exudes from Yzabel’s tones; however, while vulnerability is evident in the DIY recording, she embraces you in a bold hug delicately caressing human fragility with a warm smile.
While ‘Strangers In The Night’ has a powerful melody with Joe’s scorching guitar backing Yzabel while simultaneously screaming with classic rock/metal ferocity, the song has a profoundness in its poetic lyricism. FLIGHT23 explain:
“’Strangers In The Night’ talks about how we perceive others. We might fear them and only see the bad side, but we should never forget that we can also be monsters for our counterparts and that we should never judge a book by its cover.”
