Flashback One – Run Away (2022)

When relationships come to an end, it can be hard to let go as you cling to the hope that things can go back to the good days. This hope has been woven in ‘Run Away’ by Flashback One as the single considers the unnecessary problems one party feels can be overcome. Using a modern pop beat, the catchy and relatable take has an edgy touch that turns everything on its head.

Rich and inviting, the single balances the edgy emotions of the tale with the bright melodies as it fills you with the desire to run away with someone you love and start again. While Flashback One has been interested in music since he discovered music production at the age of 15, it was only in the last few years that he turned his attention to pop tones. Drawing on inspiration from his personal experiences and traumas, he invokes emotions in each of his tracks that are so easy to relate to.

‘Run Away’ bubbles to life with a run of synth tones that lead you into the vocals. Through the opening, the melody carries the potential of bursting into dance energy only to turn into a wave of deep sound. There is a wonderful depth to the pop arrangement of the verse that tugs at your emotions and bolsters the emotive power of the vocals. As the chorus comes in, the dance energy that was only potential in the opening rises. There is a touch of EDM and future bass to the melodic movement that makes you want to dance and fills your brain with pulsing lights. The rise and fall of this energy create an amazing movement to the track.

Shining over the opening synths are vocals that plead with you to run away with them. As the melody drops, the vocals have an authentic and vulnerable feeling as they open up and lay all the emotions of the track out. There is an understanding in the lyrics that the relationship is coming to an end, but this is countered with the desire for this to never happen. The plea of the chorus really hits you in your emotions before a vocal dance repetition hits.

Flashback One has you yearning to go back to better days in a relationship that is already over in the moving tones of ‘Run Away’. The melody uses a rise and fall to bring the well of emotion to life while filling the soundscape with dance energy. The vocals bring an edge of vulnerability to a plea while resting on the understanding that the relationship is over.
