Fiona Amaka – No Daylight (2025)

An exciting emerging talent on the London music scene, singer-songwriter Fiona Amaka is taking audiences by storm. With a confident presence and engaging melodies, the UK-based musician easily ensnares one’s senses – and I’m not talking about the stage alone. From her 2023 single ‘Anyway You Come’ to 2024’s ‘Justified (Cosmic)’, Amaka not only transcends raw energy from stage to studio; she also captures one’s emotions and takes you on a rollercoaster ride. Come with us as we delve into her most recent single, ‘No Daylight’.

Following her well-received single ‘Justified (Cosmic)’, Fiona Amaka begins 2025 with her delightful ‘No Daylight’. Alright, maybe referring to the track as a delightful ditty might be accurate considering you’re happy to discover it; however, the delight is more complex as Amaka weaves poignant emotion through kaleidoscopic sound.

Recorded and produced in London with multi-instrumentalist Gabriel Leni, ‘No Daylight’ leans further toward alternative rock and grunge than her indie-rock-inspired songs ‘Justified (Cosmic)’ and ‘Different’. With a powerful blend of soaring guitars, bold bass and crashing drums – all harmonically entwined – the new track is hard-hitting and weighty. Yet, despite the heaviness of the rock melody, Amaka’s vocals seem to introduce a gentle soothing with a simultaneous heart-aching, gruff vulnerability.

Reminiscent of 90s alternative rock, ‘No Daylight’ is a nostalgic breath of yesteryear; however, just as she lies in the 90s pool of rock, her sound is entirely unique combining vintage with contemporary tones. Moreover, within the rush of music, a core of stark, barebones honesty exudes with her soulful voice and the profound theme.

As I mentioned, Amaka’s music brims with emotions, and ‘No Daylight’ encapsulates its complexity. Inspired by the grittiness of life, the single intricately tackles human relationships. As she wishes the other all the best, Amaka dictates that you can’t have things “both ways”… a sad fact of life.

Bold but delicate, confident but fragile, warm but with a slight brashness, Fiona Amaka covers all bases with ‘No Daylight’. I’ll be sure to keep my eye on her, and I recommend you do the same.
