Fin Furey – Glory Days (2023)

Inspired by life in its entirety, singer-songwriter Fin Furey captures hearts with his moving melodies. Oscillating from light to dark, rich to raw, warm to sinister eeriness, his musicality is diverse, innovative and overwhelmingly awe-inspiring. The son of Finbar Furey of the Irish folk band The Fureys, it seems the apple does not fall far from the tree. Yet, while natural talent flows through, there is a bold individuality sweeping in Fin Furey’s style. This is my introduction to Fin Furey, but he is already turning heads across the globe with his critically acclaimed discography. The latest addition to his repertoire is ‘Glory Days’.

Following his well-received single ‘Fire and Blood’, ‘Glory Days’ is Furey’s second release in 2023. Soft and soothing, ‘Glory Days’ has a mellifluous flow of pop with tenderness; but this is only the opening lulling into a warm pop bubble. A couple of lines in, a flip to a punchier rock melody streaming through in a rush of punchy guitars and drums. The pace picks up and you find yourself twirling about in a soaring melody. The sweep of sound continues but an abrupt fall drops you to sincere old-school folk.

Carrying you on a sonic river, the musical ebb and flow hits the highest of jovial highs falling back with vulnerable lows – and all the while taking you on an emotional journey. Just as I love the movement of sounds and how it catches one’s soul with a silvery thread, it is the vocals that act as an anchor throughout ‘Glory Days’. Rich, bold and warm, Furey’s dulcet tones wrap around your heart while embracing you in a glowing hug. For me, ‘Glory Days’ is a fantastic melody, but it is the Irish inflexion that gives it something special.

Boisterous, sincere, passionate and moving, I can hear ‘Glory Days’ being played at a sold-out stadium as well as the local pub.
