Filip Dahl – I Still See You (2023)

Inspired by life in all its glory, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Filip Dahl has been wrapping profound themes in evocative melodies for decades. We left Dahl, at least review-wise, with the single ‘Can You See The World’. Capturing the raw energy of old-school rock in the single, Dahl simultaneously brought us inspiration and vulnerable melancholy. It was an “observation and statement about how unpredictable the future of the world we live in has proven to be due to the crazy egos of leading politicians…” In ‘I Still See You’, he takes another look at the phases and moods of life taking a journey down our lifepaths.

Just as we continue to grow with each day, a whimsical sense of nostalgia remains finding a line between what will come and what has been – ‘I Still See You’ captures this sentiment. At some point, time seems to move incredibly fast, and you can barely believe how quickly the year has passed (although sometimes it feels like each day is a trudge against time). Inspired by this quickening pace of time passing, which seems to become more evident as we age, Filip Dahl penned the thought-provoking single ‘I Still See You’. A song “dedicated to these unforgettable moments in his life and to all those who have left us behind with such dear and precious memories.”

While the lyrical content transcends the decades, ‘I Still See You’s melody also skips along the past 50 years. From 70s blues-rock with an 80s-inspired delve into hard rock but also 90s alternative rock vibes woven in with a lighter contemporary indie-rock tone. As with his previous material, ‘I Still See You’ is guitar-driven with scorching guitar solos showcasing his mastery of blues rock. A steady drum keeps time with a dab of crashing now and then; however, it is the insertion of a piano that gives it a heart-breaking quality.

Dipping in a plethora of rock styles, Dahl demonstrates his innovation as both a musician and composer. Like picking through old photographs and watching home movies, the melodic movement from the 1970s to 2023 is a tribute to all we have, all we had and all we have yet to discover.

In addition to the single, Filip Dahl released an official music video for ‘I Still See You’. You can view the video below or on his YouTube channel.
