Female President – Enflamed In Effigy (2023)
With a point to prove about the state of the world, Female President are thundering into the world of ecological consciousness with their new single ‘Enflamed in Effigy’. Hailing from North Carolina, this trio delivers the rock and roll sound we all know well. Through pumping basslines, distorted guitars and solid drumming, it’s clear this outfit is seasoned in this sound.
‘Enflamed in Effigy’ has been long in the making, with Drea having the initial idea for the track during the infancy of a band that was formed back in 2020 when we were all tackling one of the toughest times in human history with the pandemic. It seems fitting that other existential threats to civilization would be front and centre in this track and the ecological crisis we are all staring dead in the face.
Overall, the single isn’t groundbreaking and musically it is nothing new, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. The track ticks over nicely and will hit the spot for any fan wanting to tap their foot along to a solid rock song. It would not be out of place in an array of commercials or as the entrance music for a professional wrestler with its catchy rhythm. I am definitely getting Queens of the Stone Age vibes with raw guitars that flesh out the track. I also feel that fans of bands such as Hole and Bikini Kill will appreciate the commanding female vocals, which are akin to both Courtney Love and Kathleen Hana. All I can say is they know their target audience and have captivated that sound well.
Female President are currently recording their second EP The Healing Ritual and they recently dropped a new track, ‘Home Is The Horizon’. So there is plenty more to come in 2024.
