Evi Bosman – All That Remains (2022)
Comforting, engaging and moving, singer-songwriter Evi Bosman’s music will send your soul soaring and hug you close in a warm embrace. Inspired by iconic folk artists like Phoebe Bridgers, her sound is soothing; however, there is a complexity in the music that cements Bosman as a profound artist. Featured on CLOUT, Mystic Sons, Sinusoidal Music, Find No Enemy and various playlists, Dutch-based Bosman is reaching ears far beyond European borders. The latest addition to her discography is her EP All That Remains.
Hot on the heels of her indie-folk single ‘Remind Me’, Bosman returns with a transcendental conglomeration of mystical musical soundscapes. With her rich vocals and simplistic instrumentation, there is a melodic flow to the intriguing melodies. Combining acoustic guitars with drums and percussion, an organic sonic experience is, well, experienced. The thing is, while there is a strong similarity to old-school folk tunes, All That Remains has a familiarity but also freshness in its nostalgic whirl of sound.
Keen to share stories about the transformative and emotional experiences and the aftermath, All That Remains is a representation of Evi Bosman’s vulnerability, fragility and positivity. From the opening ‘Something To Dream Of’ to ‘I’ll Be Right Here’, Bosman traverses traumatic melancholy, warm tenderness and hopefulness at the end of everything. My favourite track is potentially ‘Remind Me’ as you feel a sense of belonging with Bosman’s gentle vocals and heart-breaking string sections.
As I mentioned, there is a familiarity to the nostalgic sonic whirlpool, and this defines Evi Bosman as an eclectic songstress. Her siren-like vocals hold you close but the mystical instrumentation sets you free to reach the highest heights in a spine-chilling way. Sincere, sentimental and serene, each of the tracks on All That Remains brings you a step closer to understanding Evi Bosman, her intriguing musicality, and the way she traps you (although it doesn’t feel like being trapped) in a harmonic soundscape.
