Every Thing The Light Touches – Animal (2024)
With a desire to “capture that magnificent energy that comes from artists who embody their art…”, musician Danny Forde brings life to songs in his moving music. As the “singer becomes the song; the dancer becomes the dance”, the Irish singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist places an almost palpable vivacity in vibrant sounds. His previous work has seen him collaborate with artists like Bill Whelan, Hozier and Denis Chaila, as well as touring extensively across Europe and the USA. His tunes have appeared in concert halls, theatres and television shows worldwide; however, we’re looking at his most recent project – Every Thing The Light Touches.
The debut single from Every Thing The Light Touches, ‘Animal’ blends the natural talents of Forde with singer-songwriter Linnéa Lundgren, guitarist Lau Noah, and drummer Dylan Lynch, and is mixed by Mike Cave. I could describe ‘Animal’ as a folk song, but I could also place it in an indie-folk swirl with dips of classical tones drawing everything together in a harmonic symphony. The fact is, while ‘Animal’ is symphonic, it is a melting pot of kaleidoscopic sounds and is completely inimitable.
For me, certain music cannot be heard but needs to be experienced – Every Thing The Light Touches has this quality. Soul-stirring and enchanting, ‘Animal’ lifts you into an ethereal sonic haze surrounded by a swarm of kaleidoscopic lights. Soft and subdued, you twirl about in pure bliss; however, vivid slices of colour break through as the piano catches in the strings with a twirl of guitars and lingering drums. Interestingly, while the slivers of colour bounce about, it does not scare but hold you in serene sincerity.
The melody is a masterpiece in itself, but it is the theme of ‘Animal’ that gives the track depth. Forde explains:
“’Animal’ is a song about self-expression, going after the life you want, and the love between parent and child. The singers in ‘Animal’ offer encouragement and inspiration to their beloved son, that the most valuable thing he can do is to be himself in front of the world.”
