Everything But the Everything ft Vacances – Jump (2022)

Everything But the Everything took us from the dark tale of self-sabotage that is ‘In Love… Again’ to a funky groove that countered the world’s troubles in ‘The Story’. Now, he is teaming up with Vacances for the dark wave, post-punk ‘Jump’. Also featuring Landon Cisneros (drums) and Andrew Gomez (synths), the single was an instant favourite among them and could easily fall into this category for anyone who listens to it.

Vacances and Izzy the Gent used to play together before Vacances ventured into electro-dance pop, while Izzy the Gent took on Everything But the Everything. Coming together again, they easily hit the right vibe to create this single, letting the music guide them in its creation. Potentially the first of many collaborations between them, the song offers a wonderful merger of the style and sound that each has honed.

‘Jump’ thrums to life with a real crowd-pleasing vibe that leads you to a building of melodic elements. This building comes to a gentle peak as the melody grabs your shoulders and gets them to shimmy to the sound. There is a retro vibe to the music that sends you back in time, but there is something else that anchors you in the present. It is a wonderful mixture of past and present that comes together in a kaleidoscope of pulsing stage lights and energy. The light touch of dark wave weaves its way between the guitars, while the electro-dance energy slinks its way into your muscles. This all comes together for a rather heady listening experience that you want to bop around to.

As the melody builds in the opening, the vocals draw you in with a string of yeahs. The main vocal line bursts against the guitars, bringing another touch of retro vibes to the track. There is a moving feeling to the vocal performance that enhances the dancing energy that has slunk into your muscles from the melody. When the chorus hits, you get lost in a heady rush of euphoria as you give in to the movement of the performance. At times, the vocals seem like they are coming from a distance, but this enhances the crowded club feeling of the track. You can easily imagine this song blaring from speakers at a party while people move on the dancefloor.

Everything But the Everything teams up with Vacances to get you moving to their rhythm as they sweep you into the heady tones of ‘Jump’. The melody builds with a retro vibe that is mixed with something modern. The vocals sweep you off your feet and take you on a moving journey as you get lost in them.
