Evelí Ray – Like Wolves (2023)
Describing her music as an “alternative fusion of art pop and world music”, singer-songwriter Evelí Ray embraces diversity in her music. From the mystic sounds of her Nordic roots to the warmth of Mediterranean influences, she draws together various cultures, styles and emotions. Inspired by “self-searching, connecting with people from different cultures and the places she has visited on her path”, Evelí Ray connects with listeners on a personal and intimate level. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Like Wolves’.
The first release since ‘Al Compás del Corazón’ in 2021, Ray breaks a two-year silence with ‘Like Wolves’. Taken off her upcoming debut album Butterflies, Ray finds the delicate balance between synthetic and organic instrumentation in ‘Like Wolves’. An orchestral tone dominates the song with underlying splashes of electronic guitar bringing obscurity to the single. Yet, the incorporation of strings and percussion retains that symphonic sound in the single. Moreover, Ray’s powerful vocals showcase her symphonic vocal strength to simultaneously send shivers down your spine and lift your soul in a hopeful surge.
Inspired by Clarissa Pinkola Estés’ book Women Who Run With The Wolves, ‘Like Wolves’ is an empowering track touching on our inner power and accepting a wildness that lives in our spirits – the wolves being that intriguing wildness. Evelí Ray explains that “this song talks about our longing for simplicity and truth in the chaotic world. It invites us to look within ourselves for guidance…”
Like vibrant sonic lights bouncing off a river of sound, Evelí Ray sets you off on the glistening surface, but you can see the turbulent waves below. The reason you don’t sink or fall victim to these waves is your acceptance of their madness – all so elegantly expressed in ‘Like Wolves’.
In addition to the single, Evelí Ray released an official music video for ‘Like Wolves’. You can view the video below or on her official Youtube channel.
