Eugenia Post Meridiem – whisper (2022)

I like to believe everything happens for a reason, so it must have been fate that brought genre-defying foursome Eugenia Post Meridiem together. Formed in 2017 in Lisbon, Eugenia (vocals and guitar), Matteo (bass), Giovanni (guitar and keys) and another Matteo (drums and percussion) drew together their diverse musical backgrounds to create a band that is difficult to describe. Elements of soul, folk, indie, and psychedelia are packaged in a 90s texture, but with a modern-day edginess in the mix.

Featured on Rolling Stone Italia, CLASH, Billboard, and various playlists, this talented group is turning heads across the globe. Not only is their recorded material making waves, but they are building a strong fanbase with their live performances at numerous venues and festivals (Reeperbahn Festival, MIL Festival). The latest addition to their discography is ‘whisper’.

The third track from their upcoming album like I need tension (due for release in November 2022), ‘whisper’ is a mishmash of genres from dream-pop to indie-rock and old-school soul all wrapped in a head-spinning sonic package. From the first chord, Eugenia Post Meridiem seem to seep into your skin with ‘whisper’. A smooth, flowing sound is heard throughout the melody; however, the hazy ambience is pierced by a powerful rock-inspired sharpness. This is particularly evident in Giovanni’s scorching guitar solo and the prominent inclusion of keys at the end.

“’whisper’ is a dark ballad you can dance to while wondering what could be the organic shape of despair. Conceived from a musical idea of Eugenia, we mostly focused on designing the right mood rather than overdeveloping structures, which is the most linear and storytelling-like of the whole bundle…” – Eugenia Post Meridiem on ‘whisper’

Mesmerising, hypnotic and rather surreal, Eugenia Post Meridiem take you on a whimsical journey with their haunting single ‘whisper’.
