Eric Alexandrakis – She Sparkles (2022)

Through his single ‘My Rainy Day’, Eric Alexandrakis soothed the rough edges of our souls, while getting us moving to the upliftment of the music. As with his previous releases, he is drawing on a personal experience to express something greater than ourselves through ‘She Sparkles’. The inspiration for this single is a weekend in Paris when the Eiffel Tower was covered in hundreds of flashing lights.

The visual this created has been picked up and transformed into something more emotional by Alexandrakis. Playing all instruments himself, with the exception of the drums which is provided by his son, he brings the best bits of retro rock to a modern artistic sound. With stunning emotion woven into each note, he will transport you from your own life into the heart of Paris.

The opening tones of ‘She Sparkles’ has a real retro vibe that seems to take you back in time to old black and white movies. This vintage veneer drops for the push of rock tones that sparkle with the lights of the Eiffel Tower. The initial push dives for a light glitter of twinkling tones that have you swaying to their gentle movement. Beneath the vocals, there are a few melodic lines that sweep across the soundscape and move you into the emotions of the lyrics. It is a dynamic melodic movement that builds through the middle and takes you along for the ride. Through the music, the first sparkling touches of affection and love make their way into your soul, matching the journey of the lyrics. There is no way that you can’t feel lighter after listening to the melody, particularly after the guitars rise like helium.

As the rock tones push into your senses, Alexandrakis’ vocals bring a hazy, almost psychedelic, flow to the track. There is a haze of heat mixed with warbling colours woven into the performance that somehow perfectly captures the emotions of the lyrics. There is a feeling of being hooked to someone or something that calls to your soul. While the single is based on the sparkling of the Eiffel Tower, the ambiguity of the lyrics have you connecting the feelings to a single person who gets you hooked to their presence. As he calls to your spirit, he invites you to stay with him. This is something that you feel ready to give into through the vocals, as they fill your senses with cotton soft clouds of happiness.

Slightly psychedelic vocals meet sparkling emotions as they ride a rising melody in ‘She Sparkles’, while Eric Alexandrakis fills your heart with affection. The melody has a heavy vintage touch in the start, then drops away for the rock push of his instrumentation. His vocals are hazy, bringing a touch of new wave to the emotions of the single.
