Engelbert Humperdinck – You’re The First, The Last, My Everything (2022)

Engelbert Humperdinck – it’s a name you’re unlikely to forget. Its memorable nature is not only in the obscurity of the name, but because Humperdinck’s a rather well-known figure in the music industry. With notable songs like ‘Release Me’, ‘There Goes My Everything’ and ‘Am I That Easy To Forget’, the UK-based singer has a penchant for ballads and waltzes; however, his roots run deep in the folk-country genre. The latest addition to his acclaimed discography is the single ‘You’re The First, The Last, My Everything’.

A highly recognisable song, ‘You’re The First, The Last, My Everything’ is a soul classic originally performed by the iconic Barry White. Deep, gruff and reaching beneath your skin, the original version had a sexiness running through it enhanced by White’s unforgettable baritone. Then again, as memorable as White was, so is Humperdinck’s take on the song. In fact, it’s a complete transformation that is as infectious but far more upbeat.

Thanks to massive awareness created by the use of his songs on television shows like Umbrella Academy and Moon Knight, the 86-year-old singer-songwriter reaches once again into his country roots turning White’s soul classic into a toe-tapping line dance hit. Effortlessly getting you moving from the first chord, Humperdinck serenades you along the “let’s get rocking” country melody.

I’ll admit, I was unsure what to expect from Engelbert Humperdinck and his version of ‘You’re The First, The Last, My Everything’, but I am so pleased I hit the play button on Spotify. A recognisable soul lilt is heard in the singing, but the country style takes precedence with an intriguing flair. Interestingly enough, the track retains the message of being the guy’s one and only; it’s just a little happier, smile-inducing and innocently charming this time around.

In addition to the single, Engelbert Humperdinck released an official music video for ‘You’re The First, The Last, My Everything’. You can view it on his official YouTube channel or below:
