Emily Sara – Aura (2024)

While Emily Sara might reach most international audiences with her Spotify and SoundCloud streaming alone, the US-based singer-songwriter is far more than a lovely voice. Trained in classical vocal and opera, Sara has graced the stages of opera houses, festivals, and live music venues, as well as acting in music videos and web series. With her strength, beauty and confidence, she reaches into people’s souls and enchants them with intoxicating music. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Aura’.

From her debut single ‘Take My Hand’ to the most recent addition ‘Aura’, Emily Sara delves into the topic of gender exploring the complexities of female identity in today’s world. Interestingly, she explores the topic not merely from personal experiences but through the eyes of mythological, literature and film female characters. In ‘Aura’, Sara draws on the tale of Greek goddess Ariadne who “after being seduced and abandoned by Theseus is discovered by Dionysus, God of wine and pleasure. They fall in love and on their wedding day Dionysus takes Ariadne’s jewelled crown and throws it into the sky creating the constellation called the Corona Borealis…”

Inspired by the raw, passionate and heartbreakingly beautiful love of Dionysus and Ariadne, ‘Aura’ is a song of peace and joy; however, the vulnerability and delicacy of such pure love flits through the melody. Produced by Alex Quade and mastered by Gabi Grella, ‘Aura’ is a soothing, gentle, laidback rush of sonic water. Quickly immersing listeners in the calm kaleidoscopic sounds, you find yourself drifting along in a smile-inducing dreaminess. Breathing in good vibes, warmth flows through your body.

While Sara’s bold vocals complement the moving melody with its delight, a tremor of fragility lingers – a sweet reminder of how pure love can be overwhelming as we show our true selves when wrapped in true love. For me, ‘Aura’ is not merely a pop single celebrating love. It is a deeper look into the connection between Ariadne and Dionysus where their souls intertwine in brutal honesty and acceptance of each other.

Sincere, sentimental and introspective, Emily Sara explores love at its core in ‘Aura’.
