Elektric Animals – Reckless (2021)

Listening to ‘Reckless’, the new single from Denver alternative rockers Elektric Animals, one question immediately pops up – what can fall under the category of classic rock’? Something from the 60s, 70s or 80s? Something that sounds like the music from those decades? It seems that everybody is currently forgetting the 90s. Why? Was the music from that decade bad? Of course not. Maybe it isn’t ‘classic’ enough? After all, it was music recorded anywhere between 20 to 30 years ago?

Why bring this up? Simply because that is where Elektric Animals and their ‘Reckless’ cue in. A slow-burning mid-tempo rocker that starts with some tinkling electronics and builds up through the multi-tracked vocals and some crunchy guitar as the song progresses. All reminiscent of where the better 90s bands found their inspiration – anywhere from brit-pop to grunge and back.

Throughout, everything sounds seamless and as it should be with the guys really leaving the impression that they know exactly what they’re doing and why. All this from a band that only has a few singles, including this one, behind them. It all sounds like Elektric Animals are one of the harbingers of the 90s revival. Keep an eye (and particularly a pair of ears) on this band.
