Edgar Allan Poets – Eclipse (2024)
Devising a sound they refer to as “noir rock”, US-based group Edgar Allan Poets captures the intensity and depth of Edgar Allan Poe and Alfred Hitchcock with poetic sonic flair. Vivid and vibrant, the duo hold listeners in a hurricane of bright lights and fantasy; however, there is a simultaneous darker, grittier, obsessive tragedy to the music. Light but dark, confident but vulnerable, bold but subdued, Edgar Allan Poets delve into life as we know it with grit and glory.
Review-wise, we left Edgar Allan Poets with their 2021 rock single ‘Clepsydra’, but they have not been far from our personal playlist. From ‘Clepsydra’ and ‘Last Dance’ to 2023’s ‘Silent Tale’ and 2024’s ‘The Shadow’, the band continues to astound us (and tons of others across the globe) with their enigmatic innovativeness. The latest addition to their discography is the single ‘Eclipse’.
In a bold concoction of Chris Mariotti’s guitar and The Shadow’s drums, ‘Eclipse’ is a powerful rush of alternative rock music with a dash of metal shimmering throughout the track. Crashing, pounding, pulsating with a heaviness to crush your heart (not literally of course), ‘Eclipse’ has a classic rock vibe; however, just as there is a vintage bite to ‘Eclipse’, a modern-day edginess makes the song familiar but fresh. It’s like a comforting hug from an old friend veiled by the brashness of a reserved new acquaintance.
Melodically, ‘Eclipse’ is a soul-stirring song ensnaring your senses bringing you a sense of tragedy in a vulnerable mire. Lyrically, however, it is entirely different. Yes, the depth of alternative rock aligns with the constraints of society BUT a hopeful resilience lingers in the theme. The band explain:
“’Eclipse’ is about the revolution inside all of us. It’s about breaking free from the constraints that hold us back and finding the courage to face an unknown future with strength and determination.”
In addition to the single, Edgar Allan Poets released an official music video for ‘Eclipse’. You can view the video below and/or on their YouTube channel.
