Eddie Cohn – Wave Goodbye (2024)

Along with his musical endeavours, singer-songwriter Eddie Cohn fills his life as a podcaster, writer, DJ and yoga teacher. Inspired by humanity in its totality from spirituality to life events, Cohn’s creativity represents the masses and our emotional experiences to life. Already on our radar, the US-based artist brought his boundary-breaking sound to our ears with ‘Who Or What I Was Before’, ‘Animals’ and ‘Freedom’. Yet, we are not the only ones whose heads have been turned with Cohn receiving critical acclaim among international audiences. Join us as we jump into his discography with the single ‘Wave Goodbye’.

Following his single ‘Who Or What I Was Before’, ‘Wave Goodbye’ is the second single released in 2024. Similar to previous material, Cohn adopts a vintage grunge tone in ‘Wave Goodbye’; however, the new track inserts a heavier, harder alternative rock flavour to the melody. Joined by Brett Farkas (electric guitars), Dan Lutz (bass guitar), Jake Reed (drums and percussion) and Phil Peterson (cello), multi-instrumentalist Eddie Cohn sets listeners off on a sonic journey through heavy, perfumed fog in a sonic forest. Interestingly, while mellifluous flow exists in the melody, its distortion enhances the vulnerability, fragility and all-consuming intricacy of ‘Wave Goodbye’.

There is an emotional ebb and flow to ‘Wave Goodbye’, oscillating between bright joviality and dark desperation. Slicing through the heavy melody, Cohn’s obscure vocals maintain a sense of vulnerability. Yet, encased in the melancholy is a light of empowerment and desire to change – a light at the end of the tunnel. Cohn explains:

“This past year was a big year for me in terms of looking inward and trying to fine-tune the way I live my life. I had a pretty big birthday and when you hit these markers in life, at least for me, it certainly causes me to turn inward and reflect on where I’ve been and where I want to go… I’d like to think we always have the ability to change and that’s sort of what this song is about… This song explores the idea of saying goodbye to the people or the things that don’t ultimately align with my values.”
