Easymess – Fireworks and Foxes (2023)

The brainchild of French-born, UK-based Adrien Latgé, Easymess blends elements of folk, indie-rock and blues with tinges of soul in his music. Embarking on this solo project after moving to London in 2015, Latgé built a solid following with his intriguing melodies. As the years progressed, Easymess went from being a one-man band to a talented five-piece gaining a reputation for hard-hitting performances. From Its All Indie to Roadie Music and Zap Bang Magazine, this group is turning heads across the globe among critics and listeners alike. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Fireworks and Foxes’.

Following the well-received single ‘A Little Closer’, Easymess finds the line between blues, folk and indie-rock in ‘Fireworks and Foxes’. Unlike ‘A Little Closer’ which uses a strong folk-inspired sound with the haunting vocals of Jessie Reid, ‘Fireworks and Foxes’ is harder, heavier and less delicate. This does not by any means remove the sense of vulnerability from Easymess’s music, it merely adds a fuller tone to the raw innocence of the track. This is one element I enjoy about Easymess, the songs are profound, thought-provoking and heart-warming while fragility still lingers about the melody.

Showcasing their innovativeness and versatility, ‘Fireworks and Foxes’ is unlike most of Easymess’s previous work. Strong leanings toward Paolo Nutini and Damien Rice are heard, but there is still an individuality lurking in the tunes creating a sound that is purely Easymess. Bold and rich, the vocal execution captures your heart embracing you in a sonic hug. The thing is, while you are being embraced in a soothing tune, the intense vulnerability makes you sit back and take deep breaths should you lose yourself in ‘Fireworks and Foxes’.

Poetic and charming, sincere and heartfelt, tender and skin-chilling, Easymess take you to another level of being with ‘Fireworks and Foxes’.
