Dzasko ft Elodie Gervaise – Like This (2022)

There are times when you wake up and are filled with the sense that the world is moving on without you as you stand still. This is something that Dzasko has felt himself, captured and transformed into his single ‘Like This’. A gripping blend of dazzling synths and guitars, there is a hint of mystery to the sound as he contemplates the complicated emotions that fill you in these moments.

The first single from his upcoming EP, the track features Elodie Gervaise on vocals who helps bring the uncertain feelings of the track to life. While tapping into his own emotions, Dzasko offers a universality to the feeling of the track that connects with everyone who listens. After years of experimentation with programming instrumentation, he ventured into new genres and continues to evolve as an artist.

The mysterious touch of ‘Like This’ starts with the siren call of the synths in the opening. There is a wavy feeling to the synths as they rise, only to fade into nothing. The bopping beats that enter below them get your limbs moving through the verses, before a build of tones takes over, leading to the chorus. There are a lot of little melodic elements that dance their way through your brain as the single progresses, adding to the mystery of the track. The paced movement of the melody later brings the feel of life warping past you while you stand still, unable to move against the rush. It is like one part of the melody is holding you in place, while the other runs past you, leaving you with the dizzying feeling of being left behind while in the grips of an almost psychedelic spiral. It is a rather intense melody that perfectly brings the feeling of the track to sonic glory.

Sliding and weaving through the melody is Gervaise’s vocal performance. Her voice is like a colourful haze that floats around the synths and lightly caresses your skin. There is something rather intangible about her performance, like it is smoke that shifts through your fingers as you try to grab onto it. While there is this intangibility, her vocals hit all the right emotive notes. She brings the panic of feeling out of time and left behind to a slightly chilled vibe. Without any effort, she gets your heart racing with the uncertainty of the track, while getting you hopelessly hooked to the single.

Bringing a touch of mystery to uncertain emotions, Dzasko and Elodie Gervaise catch you in the movement of ‘Like This’ while tapping into the feeling of being left behind in life. There is a wonderful weaving of tones and emotions through the single that really gets your heart racing. Gervaise’s vocals have just the right amount of haziness to encapsulate the uncertain feelings of the single.
