DUO DECAD – We Got It All Worked Out (2023)
Founded in 2020 by singer-songwriter Emmet McCaughey, DUO DECAD technically began as a solo project by the former Able Archer and Fuzzy Empire frontman. After reaching out to friend and fellow musician Mark Casey, the pair began an international collaboration with one part based in Dublin and the other in Chicago. The two embraced the power of digital collaboration “bouncing ideas from across the Atlantic and, ultimately, DUO DECAD was formed”.
Two years after the release of their debut single ‘Statica’ to critical acclaim, DUO DECAD release their debut album the twelfth hour. ‘We Got It All Worked Out’, the song we’re reviewing, is the second track from the eight-track album.
Drawing from different flavours of new wave, indie-pop and shoegaze, DUO DECAD has a twinkling kaleidoscopic flair to its music. Following the single ‘A Little Bit Of Love’, also on the twelfth hour, ‘We Got It All Worked Out’ is softer, soothing with a gentle calm floating through the melody. The whimsical synths pour a sense of serenity through your limbs as you set adrift on the mellifluous arrangement.
Just as the melody adds a wistful tranquillity to ‘We Got It All Worked Out’, the vocals are as enchanting. The hushed vocals might appear as poignant and yearning, but the message of ‘We Got It All Worked Out’ ensures they are hopeful and optimistic. Recorded in their respective homes in Chicago and Dublin and mastered by Andy Gallas (who happens to be in North Carolina), the swoosh of sound encapsulates togetherness in a warm sonic wrapper.
“The second single from our debut album is about hopefulness, gratitude and togetherness. It features our kids and our families on backing vocals…” – DUO DECAD on ‘We Got It All Worked Out’
Sincere, heartwarming, tender and elegant, DUO DECAD enchant us with the single ‘We Got It All Worked Out’ – and seriously, listening to this song they have got it all worked out.
