Dreamstruck – Moon (2024)

With all the ethereal haziness of a great Nordic noir, Danish duo Dreamstruck is exhibiting what it takes to stand out in the world of pop. With their own blend of shoegaze and lo-fi, Jonas and Karen captivated me from the moment I heard their new single ‘Moon’.

The opening bars set the tone for the entire track, with somewhat hypnotic lo-fi drumming which works wonderfully with a simple melody that had me drifting off into mindful meditation. When the vocals come in, they are nothing short of beautiful, really taking centre stage and allowing the lyrics to shine. I loved the exploration of the feelings of hope for a love that seems lost. I thought the symbolism of space and looking up at the night sky was a great analogy of the one thing that we can all relate to as being out of reach. This can also be humbling and really leans into the exploration of the feelings of hope for a love that seems lost and puts into perspective what is within our control.

On top of being just an all-round great song, I felt the piece did well in evoking a clear image of staring at the vastness of the night sky; it gave me a feeling of being wrapped up on a cold winter’s night just getting lost in the moment while staring up at the cosmos.

Being a big fan of this brand of atmospheric pop, discovering Dreamstuck has been one of the highlights of recent months, as they can hold their own with other Nordic greats such as Choir of Young Believers and MØ. They may only have two singles on Spotify to delve into after ‘Moon’,  but with the release of their first LP on January 10th there isn’t long to wait; for me, it can’t come soon enough. In my opinion, Dreamstruck is one band you should add to your watch list for 2025!
