Draumr – Things You Say To Yourself (2024)

The junction of three separate trails, Draumr is that point where memories, dreams and reality meet in a cinematic haze of emotion. Combining the echoing thoughts and intimate narratives, Draumr leads us down the trail of surreal existence. The solo project of musician Gabriel Cheurfa, he elegantly ensnares your senses as you find yourself in an intoxicating fog that reaches into your brain and takes you on a cinematic journey. We began our sonic trip last year with Draumr’s single ‘Some Other Night’, but today we walk through Draumr’s latest release ‘Things You Say To Yourself’. Come with us, will you?

Following his well-received track ‘Halcyon Summer’, ‘Things You Say To Yourself’ shifts from wistful dream pop to a heavier blend of indie-pop and funk with hints of synth-pop fluttering in the background. A contemporary edginess exists in the track, but it is dominated by a nostalgic 80s pop sound breathing life into an old-school style rarely heard nowadays, not only for its age but of a commercially-led, sometimes-stagnating industry.

Self-produced and recorded, ‘Things You Say To Yourself’ is a concoction of smooth bass, dynamic guitars and bold drums joined in a harmonic symphony. A gentle but rather daring melody, the track is a flood of good vibes to having you dancing; however, it is the vocals that add a striking sassiness to ‘Things You Say To Yourself’. Joined by singer-songwriter Matya, the interplay of female and male vocals captures the heart of its theme. Draumr explains:

“’Things You Say To Yourself’ is a song about that feeling when you’re falling for someone new, but your brain gets in the way with all its doubts and excuses…”

In addition to the single, Draumr released an official music video for ‘Things You Say To Yourself’. You can view the video below or via his YouTube channel.
