Dopamine – Angela (2025)
Start of the year is always an exciting time and no more than in the world of music. With their new single ‘Angela’, Australian outfit Dopamine have really helped me shake off those January blues with a masterclass in just wonderful Indie.
This is a sound I’ve always considered timeless, hazy guitars that emanate the warm feeling of summer, all us Brits crave this time of year. The vocals for me are reminiscent of many for the greats of the genre including Halloween Alaska, Editors and The Maccabees, smooth but still holding the gravitas to do the lyrics justice.
When talking about ‘Angela’ the band said ,“It’s about coming back to a place that has a lot of memories for you. I don’t think ‘Angela’ represents a person but more a place. A place that encapsulated your life at a certain point but now is just a memory.” In my opinion they’ve set out what they wanted to achieve perfectly and for me has invoked memories from 20 years ago being carefree and just enjoying life.
Enjoying ‘Angela’ so much had me going over their previous work on Spotify, which there isn’t much but it’s definitely a case of quality over quantity. Dopamine’s meticulous approach to their work is fantastic and has really only left me wanting more from them. Having already established themselves in their homeland. I personally will be keeping an eye for them heading over to Europe, as it’s clear that seeing them live can only add another dimension to their music. So, take my word for it, get ‘Angela’ firmly cemented on your playlists as I have and get ready for more hits of Dopamine.
