Dominic Romano ft Michael Dayvid – Listen (2021)

Dominic Romano continues his collaborative series with his latest release ‘Listen’. Written and performed with Michael Dayvid, the track was inspired by the book ‘Nonviolent Communication’ by Dr Marshall Rosenberg and considers how everyone has a desire to be heard and understood. Touching on the power of empathy, the single carries an important message about how listening leads to deeper understanding.

While part of a series of collaborations, Romano and Dayvid are friends outside the music world. When Romano decided to start this series, he reached out to his friend with the idea for this song. Together, they turned the empathy and life-changing message of the book into a single that shares a part of them with listeners.

‘Listen’ has a really smooth and wonderful movement to the opening that instantly captures your attention. The popping beats have a slightly tropical feeling to them that works perfectly with the softness of the other melodics. There is a gentle flow to the melody that creates an understated vibe which allows the vocals to really shine. This flow also allows the pop and warping of the instrumentation on the chorus to have a greater push and power.

While the melody has you floating on its movement, it is really the vocals that are the star of the show. After the melody grabs your attention, the vocals shout out with an impassioned plea to be heard. This dips into Romano’s vocals that bring a questioning of understanding and how people view their own opinions. The understanding is important and helps you face situations without any confrontation and more compassion. While the chorus calls out with that opening impassioned plea, it leads wonderfully to Dayvid’s vocals. After the contemplations of the first verse, his vocals bring some home truths that it is important to listen to. The lyrics are worth a serious listen while the vocals call to your soul and push the meaning of the track into your chest while pleading with you to just listen.

Dominic Romano and Michael Dayvid have a very important message woven into the impassioned pleas of ‘Listen’. The gentle flow of the single allows the emotive impact of the vocals and lyrics to really hit home. Both Romano and Dayvid sing a verse of the track that touches on the importance of empathy and listening while filling your soul with the almost pained pleas of their vocals.
