Dom Clark – Meditation (2020)

Hailing from Lancashire, but now based in London, Dom Clark has a soul meets pop meets indie-rock sound. Beginning his musical journey as part of the brass section, Clark won various competitions and graduated to principal cornet before quitting at age 15. While his hair grew longer, Clark started teaching himself to play the guitar and soon formed The Panda Gang (later known as The BDIs) with two school friends. After three albums, the group dissolved and Clark went ahead to pursue a solo career.

While playing the guitar and trumpet for his live band Dom Clark Trio, ‘Meditation’ is part of Clark’s solo project. Instead of sitting back and sulking during the COVID-19 lockdown, Clark spent those solitary weeks penning and recording his latest single. The follow-up to his acoustic ‘Castaway’, ‘Meditation’ is a soothing few minutes of soul-infused awesomeness.

Reminiscent of Chicago, Steely Dan and Boz Scaggs, Dom Clark shares his distinctive sound in ‘Meditation’. While the instrumentation is enthralling, it is Clark’s raw and effortless vocals that really carry the song. Enchanting, sincere and very catchy, the track is Clark’s take on old-school soul with a modern twist. If ‘Meditation’ is anything to go by, I can’t wait to see his debut solo albums set for early 2021.
