Doll Riot – Get A Life (2022)

Doll Riot introduced us to their wild and untamed original music through the fierce flow of their self-titled debut EP. They are continuing their delve into teenage drama with their single ‘Get a Life’ which was inspired by a real-life dilemna. Using their infectious burst of sound, the band tells the story of a psycho ex-girlfriend who was a social media stalker.

Continuing their unapologetic style, they hit you in the chest with their blend of grunge, punk and rock. Weaving a sound you really can’t get enough of, this track is sure to land up on your favourite playlist, as you head back to their debut to listen to it all again. While punching you with their sound, they tap into a touch of nostalgia which adds a new edge to the music.



‘Get a Life’ pushes you into the rush of their music through the guitars. From the first note, the melody is packed with energy that zaps through your soul and has you jumping around like you are in a mosh pit. The drums pound into your muscles, while the guitars are a live wire of electricity that shocks through your system. Around the halfway mark, the energy of the music suddenly drops for a churning building up. The darker tones of this moment are no less addictive than what came before, but hits in a slightly different way. There is a feeling of dark anticipation woven into this movement that comes to a head when the chorus hits and you are once again swept into the energetic movement of the band. There is a rather in-your-face feeling to the music that is wonderful to hear and really taps into the essence of the genres they fuse together.

As you are jumping around to the melody, the vocals bring a touch of old-school punk-rock to a modern twist. There is something about the vocal performance that makes you want to shout out with them, particularly in the chorus. Through the push and shove of the lyrics, the band leads you into the teenage dilemna that inspired the track, while hitting out at the ex, with the simple statement that they need to get a life. It is a fierce rebuke woven into an extremely catchy single that fills you with the endless energy of the band.

Doll Riot have you jumping around, shouting out the chorus and having a blast of a time to the teenage drama and fierce energy of ‘Get a Life’. From the first moment, the single has you jumping around like a crazy person as the melody pumps live energy into your veins. The vocals are a punchy push that makes you shout out the chorus and turn the volume up.
