Doc Fischbach – No More Roommates (2021)
Using his music as a form of “self-help therapy”, US-based Doc Fischbach effortlessly connects with his audience on a personal level. Intimate and intense, his music is a strong representation of human fragility and can be quite soulful. A relative newbie in the indie music scene, the Doc has a massive back-catalogue but released his debut single last year. Featured on the likes of Sinusoidal Music, Roadie Music, Jukebox Times and various online radio stations/playlists, he is definitely reaching a global audience. The latest addition to his discography is ‘No More Roommates’.
Following ‘Red Santa Fe’ and ‘So Tired’, ‘No More Roommates’ adopts a toe-tapping, upbeat and more jovial tone than most of Fischbach’s work. He shares that he writes “…a lot of sad music usually, so it was nice to make a song that was the exact opposite of what I’ve done.” Personally, I believe this transition shows great innovativeness as an artist. Moreover, the difference between his tracks beyond sad and glad highlights his versatility. For instance, ‘Red Santa Fe’ has a passionate acoustic poignancy while ‘So Tired’ encapsulates elements of dance beats within the inner turmoil. ‘No More Roommates’ takes an about-turn weaving buoyant vocals in the kaleidoscopic contemporary arrangement.
Reminiscent of Bruno Mars but with softer, smoother and richer vocals, Doc Fischbach finds the optimistic side of broken relationships. In most cases, people experience some inner conflict and distress when a relationship ends; however, ‘No More Roommates’ is a moving approach to the termination of an abusive relationship. Using a bright personal narrative, the track has an empowering positivity for all individuals listening to the track. Fischbach shares that “…many people can relate to feeling like their relationship was a sham and I think people fresh out of a bad relationship will find this song motivating and funny.”
Anthemic, light-hearted, smile-inducing and infectious, ‘No More Roommates’ is a superb shining light in the mire of broken hearts. I cannot wait for more from the talented singer-songwriter.
