Dizzy Panda – Back to Me (2022)

Dizzy Panda brings a hit of indie rock to electronic distortions and dark pop for the edgy yet addictive tones of ‘Back to Me’. Taken off their upcoming LP Panda Bonus Points, the track has been built up completely with electronic sounds and samples. The unique and genre-defying sound of the band has been infused into each note to get you endlessly lost in their sound.

While the sound of the band wanders over genre boundaries, the duo behind the sound stay true to their root influences of dark psychedelia (Dizzy) and chill retro (Panda). This collaborative duo started out of curiosity, as they consider whether it was possible to make music without any formal knowledge of music, or the ability to play an instrument. With the help of other indie artists, they have found the support they needed to sate this curiosity and their extremely engaging music is a perfect end result.

‘Back to Me’ vibrates with dark electronic tones in the opening, leading you into the digital soundscape. There is a darkness woven into the sounds that tugs at your senses and vibrates through your bones. The flow of the melody reaches out with coloured ribbons into the dark night, pulling you along with it. It is interesting to listen to the melody knowing that it was created electronically and using samples, because it has been masterfully put together. Each note adds to the building vibrations of the music and bolsters the dark vocals that look down on the lower levels of the music. There is a building feeling to the music as the single progresses with layers of sound overlapping and rising in the darkness.

As the dark tones of the melody vibrate through your senses, the vocals curl around you like smoke. They rise from the depths of the music to twirl around your senses, grabbing your attention only to evaporate into the nether. There is something in the vocals that calls to your soul, beckoning you further into the spell of the melody. Later in the track, the vocals gain a dramatic gothic edge that is rather otherworldly. This sends shivers through you, before you are again compelled by the smoky vocal line. It is an extremely addictive combination of smoky vocals, dark melodics and driving tones that you never want to end.

Dizzy Panda casts a spell over your senses with the dark electronic tones and alluring vocals of ‘Back to Me’. The melody has a darkness that vibrates through your bones woven into the electronic notes.
