Divisions – Quiet Frustrations (2021)

While the big things in life can hit you hard, it is the small everyday battles that really grind away at you. This is what Divisions focuses on with their single ‘Quiet Frustrations’. Through their music, they take a look at the deceptions and everyday injustices that slowly grind us down over time. While a consideration of the small problems of life, the single also offers an outlet for the frustration these issues create.

The track is the first off their upcoming self-titled full-length album. With introspective lyrics and a solid rock ethic, Adam Moore, Matthew Moore, David Thaxton, Lloyd Stringer and Kris Winser create a layered sound that everyone can relate to. The band has been writing songs together from a young age and their shared love of music has led them to this point.

‘Quiet Frustrations’ hits you with crashing cymbals and soaring guitars in the opening to fill you with a sense of the everyday. There is an interesting vibe to the music that wraps around you and seems to put you at ease before it drops to make way for the vocals. The driving beats and multi-layered guitars create a textured melodic flow packed with everything that life entails. It is an engaging melody that is really easy to listen to as you sink into it.

As the melody dips for the vocals, they have a quizzical vibe to them. Through the vocals, you are filled with a questioning of emotions and your place in the world. The light edge of haziness to the vocals add to a sense of disconnection with the world which enhances the lyrics. On the chorus, you get a sense of frustration at the little things in life which is utterly relatable. While you might not want to sing along to the chorus, you will feel your spirit soar with it.

Divisions connect with feelings of frustration at the small things in life that grind us down in the engaging and relatable single ‘Quiet Frustrations’. Through the emotive vocals, you are taken from questioning everything to frustration at the daily grind. This is bolstered by the layered movement of the melody which offers a textured view into the everyday.
