Divisions – Out Of All Proportion (2021)
Drawn together by their mutual love for Radiohead, Pink Floyd and similar musicians, Adam Moore, Matthew Moore, Lloyd Stringer, David Thaxton and Kris Winser formed Divisions. An alternative rock meets indie-rock, Divisions proffer powerful melodies and insightful lyricism. Featured on FV Music Blog, Nexus Music Blog, Fruit Sonic, iHeart Radio and many other notable media, the fivesome is engaging with listeners on a global level. One of the latest singles to be released from the group is ‘Out Of All Proportion’.
Taken off their recently released, self-titled album, ‘Out Of All Proportion’ is a simplistic grunge track with contemporary alt-rock influences. Reminiscent of Radiohead and Coldplay, the track has a soft, soothing melody creating a not necessarily hazy ambience but filling your head with charming fuzz. A guitar-driven single, ‘Out Of All Proportion’ holds steady instrumentation with the smooth bass carrying you along a languid river. Yet, while the river is calming, it holds a darker, murkier undercurrent.
A compelling track with wistful innocence and nostalgic insight, ‘Out Of All Proportion’ has a hushed quality drawing you into the fog. The rich vocals merge effortlessly with the grungy melody exposing the grittiness of one’s soul. A lingering melancholy does hang on each word; however, the well-arranged crescendo near the end is inspiring.
Divisions have a way of using transitions in tempo and tone to their advantage. The upbeat ‘Quiet Frustrations’ remained high-paced but will a lull in the tune to represent the, well, quiet frustration, and this occurs in ‘Out Of All Proportion’. Elegantly progressing from a staid, haunting melody to an overwhelming burst of instrumentation reflects the emotional drift from confused to enlightened. The really intriguing part, however, is the silent outro prompting a deafening acceptance of the emotive journey.
