Dirty Mitts – Women (2023)

Formed in 2022, Dirty Mitts as a band can be looked at as a toddler weaving itself through the legs of adult groups. Then again, the mass of industry experience between Tommy (vocals), Mo (guitars), Matt (bass), and Mateusz (drums) offers sophistication in their music far surpassing Dirty Mitts’ young years. Hard-hitting, bold and raucous, classic rock group Dirty Mitts hit you between the eyes with their heavy music. Yet, just as their melodies kick at the core, the profoundness of their music shines through in the themes.

Inspired by life in its totality, the lads touched on “freedom and enjoying the moment” in the debut single ‘My Show’ and explored open societal ferocity in ‘You Better Run! (Villains Theme)’. They step up once again touching on provocative issues in the new single ‘Women’.

Following their well-received single ‘You Better Run! (Villains Theme)’, ‘Women’ is one of the tracks off their upcoming EP Hands Off! (set for release in November 2023). Just like it says on the tin, ‘Women’ is a song about women, but not just the beauty and grace of the fairer sex. Offering a broader appreciation of women, Dirty Mitts once again up the ante viewing the perception of females in contemporary society. Vocalist Tommy explains, “the hook line ‘give me women on equal pay’ is… a nod to contemporary themes that are becoming more prominent in music”, in this case, the demand for recognition and equality of women in the workplace.

In my previous release, I referred to Dirty Mitts as the “younger brother of Guns N’ Roses”. In ‘Women’ they are growing up matching the older brother at his game. A steady bassline runs alongside strong drums as the heartbeat of the single. Powerful guitars insert colour to the pale visage of the melody’s face, and Tommy comes in with gruff vocals adding some flair to the tune. The thing is, just as the song continues with a hard-rocking classic rock tone, as it progresses it entices you to come closer. The veil lifts with scorching guitars, a shimmering twirl in the forceful vocals and, ultimately, Mateusz sends our hearts racing with crashing drums left by an abrupt end.

The theme song for any rally, Dirty Mitts will have you pumping your hand in the air and singing along to every anthemic word in ‘Women’.
