Dimitris Nezis (ft. Natalie Jean) – Deceive Me (2024)
Since the mid-2000s when dance music was thronged by international artists like Avicii, the EDM scene was thriving across Europe as new musicians made their way through the sparkling nightclub lights. Eurovision captured the core of metal, EDM, pop and rock in its obscure way and artists like Dimitris Nezis grew from the hype. In the past 15 years, the Greek artist has released numerous singles and albums, won over 40 international music awards, is a Grammy-balloted artist, and is a judge of the Red Carpet Awards in the EU, as well as the ISSA Awards and Global Film and Music Festival in the USA. Come with me as I dip my toe in his critically acclaimed repertoire – not literally of course.
With his international reach, Nezis is eager to collaborate with musicians across the globe. Regardless of their specific genre or style, Nezis’ flexibility and innovation give each single something special – with ‘Deceive Me’ he captures the genuineness of soul singer Natalie Jean.
Following his country-inspired melody with singer Dawn Rix, ‘All That Matters’ and club remix of ‘Poison’, ‘Deceive Me’ finds the line between EDM and commercial pop with a slip of RnB shimmering through the arrangement (composed by Konstantinos Ikonomopoulos). As with previous material, the bold pop sound breaks through a kaleidoscopic haze; however, an off-kilter and unexpected incorporation of string-inspired synths ends the composition with a symphonic shimmer.
One aspect I find intriguing about ‘Deceive Me’ is how the pop-filled anthem perfectly captures the heartfelt themes. Dipping into relationships, ‘Deceive Me’ travels the course of a torn relationship from powerful love to cruel betrayal. Yet, while the fragility of love cracks in the middle, a sugary sweet pop wrapper makes the song more enticing. This is even more intriguing as hopefulness clings to the kaleidoscopic blend giving you empowerment despite the pain within.
In addition to the single, Dimitris Nezis released an AI music video for ‘Deceive Me’. You can view the video below or via his YouTube channel. Please note that this video uses lighting effects that can trigger seizures in people with photosensitive epilepsy. Viewer discretion is advised.
