Dici – Day Dream (2023)
From the bedroom of a quarantined 17-year-old using a Pro Tools rig to a multi-faceted and internationally acclaimed artist, Dici is a masterful musician at work. Described as having “gorgeous moodiness…” (Hip Hop Weekly) and “… impeccable ability to capture the voice of the generation” (HYPE Magazine), Italian-born but US-based Dici is, well, the voice of this generation. Blending hip-hop beats with powerful rap and slivers of pop slithering through the melody, this talented wordsmith embodies the essence of urban-pop. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Day Dream’.
On the heels of his acclaimed single ‘Champagne Showers’, ‘Day Dream’ is Dici’s fifth release in 2023 – excluding the remix albums. As with his previous material, ‘Day Dream’ embraces the power of rap through Dici’s vocals; however, a strong flavour of pop floats throughout the single. In ‘Champagne Showers’, he sang that he likes to give girls diamonds, but sonic diamonds pour off his tongue in the melodic new track. Albeit slightly brash in the electronic arrangement, a soothing harmony exists pulling all elements together in an intriguing sound.
While the melody can hold its own with its intoxicating nature, Dici showcases his depth with the lyricism. Elegantly bouncing atop the shimmering synths and drumbeats, his rich vocals touch on the themes of infatuation, inner turmoil and anxiety. The dulcet tones do have a warmth to them but vulnerability drips from the words as Dici hopes to escape the feelings of desperation through daydreams but is unable to shake the crippling obsession.
