DEANO – Tillman (2022)

Embracing a passion for music early in life, singer-songwriter DEANO took up his guitar at age 10 but then put it down for the next 30 years. Fortunately, he rediscovered his passion for the guitar and songwriting. Now, in his 40s, US-based Dean Patrick Schumacher (also known as DEANO) is sharing his unique blend of country, rock and folk. While this is my introduction to DEANO, he is already turning heads internationally with features in Rock Era Magazine, Find No Enemy, Sinusoidal Music, and various playlists. One of the most recent additions to his discography is the single ‘Tillman’.

Following his track ‘Fishin’ Pole Fishin’ Soul’, and preceding the song ‘Jack Labrador Song 1’, ‘Tillman’ is a divergence from DEANO’s country-rock sound. Still retaining a slice of country rock, ‘Tillman’ inserts elements of classic rock and old-school country. With a nostalgic flair, DEANO takes us back to the days of old-school Guns ‘N Roses with this hard-hitting song. Combining dynamic guitars with pounding drums and an interspersed banjo, there is a strong Guns ‘N Roses meets Deliverance vibe; however, I think this talented musician could give Axl Rose a run for his money. Gruff, gritty and bold, DEANO has you twirling about in a kaleidoscopic sonic whirlpool with your soul soaring to new heights.

DEANO explains that releasing singles allows him the freedom to be more spontaneous, and this freedom is clearly evident in ‘Tillman’. While the melody can hold its own as a breath-taking arrangement, it is DEANO’s vocals that make it something special. Rich and powerful but with a rock grittiness, he injects an aggressive darkness into this genre-defying song. As I mentioned, this is my introduction to DEANO, but with one song he has gained at least one more fan. I look forward to hearing more from this outstanding artist.
