Daniel de Boer – Beside Me (2025)

Describing his music as “world pop”, Daniel de Boer’s music lingers in the realm of pop but adds various shades of globally inspired sounds to its kaleidoscopic concoction. Hailing from The Netherlands, the singer-songwriter is quickly gaining an international, cross-continental following far beyond his Dutch borders – Australia, the USA, the UK, Canada, and Germany (just to name a few). Join us as we delve into his most recent release, ‘Beside Me’.

Following his well-received debut album, Out of Shadows, Daniel de Boer steps into 2025 with ‘Beside Me’. One of the tracks from his upcoming EP, The Turnaround, ‘Beside Me’ sees de Boer retain his innovative, eclectic, and somewhat eccentric push beyond conventional realms of folk, pop and world music. Joined by producer Shakthi KT, ‘Beside Me’ is not to be heard, but must be felt and experienced placing you in the centre of a sonic forest filled with colourful fairies flitting about welcoming you with shimmering sparkles of magic dust. Toe-tapping, heartfelt and brimming with a sense of calm, ‘Beside Me’ is, well, just pleasant.

As much as the melody has a rise to soaring guitars, a bold bass, and crashing drums, it remains a wash of happiness where you dance with the fairies, sing with the birds, and lose yourself in the breath of fresh air. Joined by musician Marcelo Woloski on percussion, and what I believe is a bit of a fiddle peeking in the back, ‘Beside Me’ finds duality in its stark, barebones simplicity but intricate, kaleidoscopic fusion of instruments – not to mention de Boer’s twinkling vocals binding it all in a silvery bow.

The song itself is a sensational, soul-stirring breath of life; however, weightiness exists in the lyricism. De Boer explains, “…it’s about coming back to yourself and your own path after deviating from it for a while…”

Sincere, sentimental and indulgent, Daniel de Boer is new to my ears, but the comfort oozing from ‘Beside Me’ makes him feel like an old friend and not a new acquaintance. I am eager to hear more from this talented artist.
