Dammy – Waste No Time (2022)

Described by Sinusoidal Music as someone who “plays by new, unwritten rules”, UK-based rapper Dammy is something unique. He began releasing music in 2020 and since then has received coverage on international press and playlists – leading to a global following. An upcoming artist, he sticks to raw beats with rough tones; however, there is a sophistication in Dammy’s work that exceeds expectations. The latest addition to Dammy’s discography is the single ‘Waste No Time’.

Hot on the heels of his single ‘Your Turn’, Dammy adopts a hard-hitting old-school rap design in ‘Waste No Time’. The track is a bit of a nostalgic throwback to the sounds of the 90s ala Snoop Dogg and Notorious B.I.G., but there is a contemporary pop slide worked into the rap tapestry with the catchy choruses. Smooth and flowing in its abrupt style, ‘Waste No Time’ has a kaleidoscopic quality despite the somewhat minimalistic beats. Unlike ‘Your Turn’, ‘Waste No Time’ is slightly darker with an old-school charm about it.

A tale about a “dauntless and cocky character whose unwavering pursuit of money comes above the romantic relationship in his life”, there is an aggression and ruthlessness about the song. The thing is, just as there is ruthlessness in the tune, ‘Waste No Time’ is tinged with a sense of reflective vulnerability. It is as if there is a sentimentality behind the hard-arse exterior pumped up by Dammy’s unique artistry.
