Dallas Remington – Life In Podunk (2024)

Known for her enthusiasm, energy, passion and zest for life, singer-songwriter Dallas Remington is a high-powered bubble of pure joy with moving melodies and a kick-ass attitude. Raised on 90s country and country classics, it is needless to say country music has a strong influence on Remington’s style; however, she pushes the boundaries of twangy country with rushes of rock, folk and pop. Retro but contemporary, listening to her music is a comfortable hug and big grin with an old friend, but simultaneously shaking hands with a new acquaintance. The latest addition to her discography is the single ‘Life In Podunk’.

Following her well-received single ‘GONE WITH THE WIND’, Dallas Remington picks up the pace with good ol’ country tones in ‘Life In Podunk’. Joined by studio musicians Corey Lawson (acoustic/electric guitars and banjo), Dave Ryan (drums and percussion), Phil Anthony (bass), Deforest Brown (keys), Andy Ellison (dobro), and Natalie Brady (backing vocals), ‘Life In Podunk’ is one of those songs that are to be experienced rather than heard.

Tossing you immediately into a swirl of kaleidoscopic sound, the soaring guitars meld with pounding drums, a bold bass and shimmering keys. Interestingly, while the instrumentation joins in a harmonic rush of sound, certain individual elements stand out for each instrument. A shout-out to the banjo has to be made bringing cheeky country vibes to the melody. Then again, Remington’s sassy vocals truly gather all ol’ school country has to offer in a mish-mash of Americana and classic rock (she even has that twang!).

The melody is intriguing as producers Corey Lawson and Harold Larue sprinkle their musical magic across the tune. Yet, the lyricism and theme are what make ‘Life In Podunk’ realistic, relatable and emotional. Remington explains:

“This is one of my favourite songs that I’ve written… I love how we captured the life so many people I know have lived. Growing up, we all struggled to decide whether to stay home and build a life or leave to find a different life. While the couple in this song chose not to leave after finding out they were pregnant, they went on to live a life they would never trade, and I think that’s beautiful…”
