D. Cullen – Where Did You Go? (2025)
If you’re a fan of Kings of Leon, The Killers and Foo Fighters, the chances are you should…no, not should, will be intrigued by singer-songwriter D. Cullen. Hailing from Ireland, the alternative rock meets indie-rock artist makes our acquaintance with the single, ‘Where Did You Go?’. Yet, as much as it is a new blast of music to our ears, the influential daubs of Kings Of Leon make us greet D. Cullen with a chocolate biscuit, cup of tea, and warm, comfortable, friendly embrace.
Following his well-received 2024 album, Standalone, D. Cullen opens the new year with his new single, ‘Where Did You Go?’. Somewhat heavier than previous material – his song ‘Rainbow Weather’ has a strong leaning of the Beatles – ‘Where Did You Go?’ is a pivotal point in D. Cullen’s musical evolution.
Filled with bold drums and soaring guitars, you seem to surf the crest of a hard-hitting, kaleidoscopic wave. Raw and gruff but bound by sophisticated elegance, you head for the shore with a heart of rambunctious joy and a cheeky grin. I find this rush of sound particularly intriguing as the music seems to capture D. Cullen’s love for yesteryear’s rugged but smooth alternative rock. He explains:
“This song is a mission statement for my second album. I came of age during what was possibly the last great era for guitar music. The early-mid 2000s were a golden time for indie music. Big guitars, big drums, records that simultaneously sounded raw and massive on the radio… ‘Where Did You Go?’ perfectly captures that.”
This is my introduction to D. Cullen, so what do I think of him and his new single? Ultimately, it is an endearing rock song dragging you back to the alternative rock world of the late 90s/early 2000s. If this is the way D. Cullen enters 2025, we have a lot to look forward to!
In addition to the single, D. Cullen released an official music video for ‘Where Did You Go?’. You can view the video below and/or on his YouTube channel.
