Culture of Digital Elegance – Words (2021)

Merging elements of nu-metal and alternative rock, Culture of Digital Elegance (also known as C.O.D.E.) is the modern-day answer to Halestorm and Linkin Park. Hailing from Greece, the Athens-based quartet oozes sensuality, decadence and raw power in their hard-hitting style. Formed in 2008 as a fusion of electropop and psych-rock, C.O.D.E. grabbed the attention of radio stations across Europe and they still turn heads. The latest addition to their discography is ‘Words’.

Moving from the simpler, more ambient releases ‘No Excuses’ and ‘Stain’, ‘Words’ has a melodic metal meets hard rock feel. Reminiscent of Shinedown, the pounding drums and dynamic guitars place you in a swirling pool of dark sound. The harmonic union of slick guitar riffs, sensational drumming cascade down your spine stinging you with the explosive effect. Yet, while the instrumentation is hard-hitting, it is Vicky Fysika’s vocals that enhance the poignancy of ‘Words’.

Showcasing their innovativeness and depth, ‘Words’ touches on the challenges of modern society. It looks at the disintegration of human relationships during the pandemic. A profound theme but C.O.D.E. expose the fragility of the human spirit with rich robustness. The pain and desperation felt in Fysika’s voice, almost identical to Lzzy Hale, easily brings a tear to your eye with its poetic flow.
