CS Hellmann – In A World Gone Wrong (2024)

For many, music is solace. It is a way to escape all the problems of reality. You fall into a world of sound and feel at peace – just part of the music. For CS Hellmann, he may work a full-time job, but he shares that “my passion rests in the comfort of the musical universe I have inside my head…” To date, the US-based Hellmann has shared his passion with the world reaching international audiences, curators, and live crowds at festivals like SXSW and Summerfest, as well as supporting bands like OneRepublic and The Academy Is. For a shy guy, he’s certainly making some waves placing his stamp of “here I am” on the rock music scene. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘In A World Gone Wrong’.

Produced by Jared Corder of indie-rock band Repeat Repeat, the new single is a swirl of beautifully arranged sounds with a slightly off-kilter quality. Following his 2023 single ‘Southbound Train’, listening to ‘In A World Gone Wrong’ is like being led through a tunnel of indie-rock music while wrapped in a bubble-gum kaleidoscope of wistful dream-pop. Soothing synths match guitars in a harmonic melody. Not oscillating between dark and light per se, but rather presenting everything at once with gritty despair veiled by happy thoughts.

The phrase goes that “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger”, and singer-songwriter Hellmann captures its core in ‘In A World Gone Wrong’. He explains:

“’In A World Gone Wrong’ is a song of empowerment, a song of finding grace in dire circumstances… I wanted to write a song that embodies my belief system that’s both empowering and vulnerable. Life tends to throw you curveballs, and it is about how you respond to adversity and how you overcome adversity. ‘In A World Gone Wrong’ isn’t meant to be a song of despair and hopelessness. Quite the opposite, it’s a song that recognises your shortcomings and embraces hardship into becoming what defines you as a person…”
