Cris Cap – Young Gun (2025)

Sauntering across various genres, it is almost impossible to completely categorise Cris Cap’s melodies. From RnB to jazz, pop and soul, the Germany-based musician and producer brings old-school sounds and fills it with a contemporary vibe. We previously spoke with Cap about his singles ‘Wings Of Love’, but today we take a gander (and a listen) to his new single ‘Young Gun’. Join us, won’t you? I promise you won’t regret it.

Following the well-received 2024 song ‘Live Like My Cat’, ‘Young Gun’ is a nostalgic flood of RnB and pop with a flush of soul shimmering in the track. Self-recorded and produced, Cap proves himself a musical alchemist concocting one of the most infectious, toe-tapping tunes to hit my ears in a while. A pulsating drum keeps the beat going – almost like a heartbeat – while Ben Nemsi’s guitars bring a soaring old-school soul feel to the single. Yet, as much as the bold bass, powerful guitar and steady drums join in a harmonic symphony, it is Cap’s piano that enhances the twinkling tenderness of ‘Young Gun’.

Melodically, each element unites in a rhythmic flow but simultaneously offers individuality making you note all the instruments while enjoying them in unison. Add Hudson Hayes’s rough but warm vocals, and ‘Young Gun’ brims with comfort, solace, and a heartfelt full-bodied weightiness – while, of course, keeping things light.

One aspect I find intriguing is how the vintage melody so perfectly aligns with the theme of speaking to your younger self and sharing life lessons. Cris Cap explains:

“I was that shy kid who couldn’t bring himself to say how he felt. Writing ‘Young Gun’ was a way to reconnect with that younger version of myself. I wanted to remind him – and anyone who has ever felt stuck in their own fears – that love is worth the risk.”

In addition to the single, Cris Cap released an official lyric video for ‘Young Gun’. Taking images from his youth as that “shy guy”, Cap’s visuals invite listeners to remember their coming-of-age and enhance the song’s essence. You can view the video below or on his YouTube channel.
