Crimson Clean Sweep – Hexes (2021)
Crimson Clean Sweep has taken the feeling of being at your lowest and no one seeming to listen and turned it into ‘Hexes’. The single thrashes through your veins with the struggles of coping with mental health while feeling that there is no support structure for you to call on. With a punch of metal, the track filled you with the horror of these moments while encouraging anyone struggle through these feelings to continue reaching out.
This delve into dark emotions comes from Colin (vocals), Ryan (guitar), Cole (guitar), Reese (drums) and Baily (bass). Baily, Reese and another musician originally created the band as a Beatles cover band with some grunge originals on the side. The heaver guitar was brought by Ryan when he joined and Colin was brought in for backing vocals. After the other musician left, the band evolved into the sound they currently pulse through your veins.
‘Hexes’ grabs your attention with a punch of drum and an enthralling guitar line. There is a delightful darkness to the music that insinuates itself in your brain and vibrates. The pulsing guitars lines and punchy drums are a blast to listen to as they create the dark swirls of struggling with mental health. As the vocals enter, there is an almost hum that threads through the music elevating everything to a new level. The melody moves from pulsing metal to melodic metal with delightful artistry that you can’t help but enjoy.
While the melody has you hooked to the track from start to finish, Colin’s vocals are on a whole new level. The metal screams rip through your chest as he pulls you down into the depths of the track’s emotions. Later in the track, the heavy metal tones of the vocals take a turn for a softer rock tone. This is wonderful as it brings a feeling of light after the darkness of the metal tones that pull you down into the darkness. While there is a heavy hit of darkness in the song, there is also a motivation thread woven into it. Through the single, you feel that you are not alone in the pain and horror you face which is what many of us need.
Crimson Clean Sweep hits you with thrashing metal tones and smooth melodic movements to let you know you are not alone in ‘Hexes’. The melody pulls you under the band’s spell while the vocals connect with the struggles many have faced.
