Cory McComas – Stand Up (2024)

While I come across many artists who embrace their passion for music in their youth, it is those who “prove it is not too late” that truly inspire. Singer-songwriter Cory McComas is one of the individuals who stoked the embers of musical passion later in life. In September 2021, he picked up a guitar without any background or experience and earlier this year released his critically acclaimed debut song ‘Project X’. A new artist to the scene, McComas is a minnow in a pool of sharks; however, his powerful melodies have him shining brightly demanding attention while flitting about those sharks. The latest addition to his discography is the single ‘Stand Up’.

Following the instrumental track ‘Project X’, Cory McComas traverses the realm of hard rock and metal in ‘Stand Up’. Powerful and hard-hitting, listening to ‘Stand Up’ is like being tossed into a hurricane whipping about at breakneck speed; however, as there is a sonic insanity built through the drums and guitar combination, a lingering harmony exists as Fernando Lemus’s drumming cuddles alongside McComas’s guitar in dark union.

Recorded and produced by Lemus, the head-spinning hurricane of ‘Stand Up’ is not merely a melodic rush of chaos but also a profound expression of self-awareness. An oscillation between soft harmonic vocals and a brash scream of sound, the track is a complex rollercoaster exploring the depths of inner turmoil. McComas explains:

“’Stand Up’ is a song about standing up against the demons that are constantly fighting you, whether that’s relationship troubles, addiction, difficulty with family and friends or even yourself… I wrote the song in a way where my vocals represent me fighting my demons as I am in life now and my demons, represented by the harmony vocals, are my thoughts fighting me back… I ultimately have the last word in the song though representing that me/we can all overcome our demons with some fight.”

In addition to the single, Cory McComas released an official music video for ‘Stand Up’. You can view the video below or on his YouTube channel.
