Copper Lungs – Broken Beautiful (2025)
If Nothing But Thieves had a kid with Chvrches, Copper Lungs would be that kid. Known for introspective lyricism, engaging melodies, and an all-enchanting haze of intoxicating goodness, the Scotland-based band win hearts wherever they go – or wherever their music goes. Reaching to each corner of the UK, the band’s following grows with each radio play, blog post, or electric performance, but heads are turned internationally. Each adding their particular shine to Copper Lungs’ sonic tapestries, Darren Lindsay (vocals and guitar), Inaxio Abecia (lead guitar and backing vocals), Liam Thomson (bass), and Brandyn Murphy (drums), the foursome share their most recent single, ‘Broken Beautiful’.
The title track off Copper Lungs’ upcoming album – set for release in May – ‘Broken Beautiful’ is a mishmash of various rock flavours. Produced with Bruce Rintoul, a sparkling combination of pop-rock and indie-pop glitters in the single. The crashing drums, bold bass, shining synths and scorching guitars join in a harmonic pop-rock tune; however, as much as there is unity, each instrument has a particular individuality that enhances the melody’s rhythmic effect.
Breathing life into 90s/2000s pop-rock fancies, ‘Broken Beautiful’ brings a nostalgic smile to my face. A nod to the vibes of CrashCarBurn and McFly oozes from the single, but don’t forget Copper Lungs retains a certain uniqueness within this retro sonic bubble. Perhaps it is Darren Lindsay’s vocals that up this ante with its rich ruggedness.
Like a big hug from your best friend, ‘Broken Beautiful’ is filled with kaleidoscopic warmth, love and reassurance. Looking at life in its glory and grittiness, Copper Lungs celebrate the past, present and future in their new song. Speaking about ‘Broken Beautiful’, Lindsay shares: “Through the good days and the bad, I feel that ‘Broken Beautiful’ sums up life as a whole…”
